This wine is made from the South African grape Pinotage which is a crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsault. It appears as a deep ruby red with a black cherry rim. Aromas of blackberries, blueberry compote, earth, black licorice, star anise, stewed Bing cherries, dried cherries, and molasses. On the palate it is dry with a smooth velvety texture. Flavours of blackberry and blueberry compote, star anise, tobacco leaves, stewed figs, and black licorice. Good balance of acidity and fruit composition, the tannins are refined and silky and well integrated.
Pairing: Shepherd's pie with lots of rosemary and thyme, Mediterranean pizza with artichokes, black olives and lots of fior di latte.
Cellaring: Decant and drink now through 2025
